The Security Committee and our Security Patrol have been in existence since 1983. The Security Patrol is not a neighborhood watch association but rather is a private patrol of off-duty Atlanta Police Department officers paid for by residents. While we are part of the Ansley Park Civic Association, the preponderance of our funding comes from memberships that include APCA Security Patrol. The annual budget for the patrol is approximately $180,000 per year almost all of which is for compensation for the police officers. Only $3000 is required to run the Security Patrol due to a lot of volunteer hours that are involved in the process.  Any overage goes first toward adding new shifts and then to upgrading our technology.   Membership dues are a direct benefit to the residents of Ansley Park. The greater participation levels, the more patrol shifts that can be funded.

Despite a challenging recruitment environment we keep a cadre of top officers that love our neighborhood and neighbors. Our officers work in 4-hour shifts at various times throughout the week based on statistical crime occurrence and complementing the officers' full-time hours with the Atlanta Police Department. As neighbor contributions have grown we've been able to grow from about 30% to 40% of weekly hours covered by one of our shifts, with an emphasis on overnight hours.

While adding security patrol membership is optional to APCA , the majority of our members participate. Some members go beyond the base level of membership to contribute further funds toward the patrol, which provides significant help in maximizing officer coverage and technology investments such as License Plate Readers.

Members receive a sign for their yard and may request officers to check their houses when they are out of town. Membership from co-op and townhouse owners are solicited in cooperation with their associations.

Every fall, we host ‘Meet the Officers’ in McClatchey Park for the children to meet Atlanta Police Department police and learn who the Good Guys are! We have motorcycle units, police horses, a member of the K-9 unit, police squad cars, balloons and breakfast as part of the event.

Because of the vigilance of our officers and our neighbors, Ansley Park is one of the safest neighborhoods in the city.

Benefits of APCA Security Patrol Membership

  • A yard sign saying you are a member of the Security Patrol.
  • The Ansley Park Security Patrol has a SECURITY ALERT EMAIL to keep residents informed of crimes for residents. If you would like to be added to the e-mail distribution list for these alerts, please join one of our levels of membership and you will automatically be added to our E-News distribution list.
  • Additional surveillance of your home when you are out of town. Officers will check your house several times each shift while you are away. No house under our watch has ever been burglarized while the neighbor was out of town.
